Punjab FC are continuing their hunt for maiden win in the top tier of Indian football as the newly-promoted side travel to Bengaluru to face the hosts Bengaluru FC at the Kanteerava Stadium.
Punjab FC have shown glimpses of their quality with some hard-fought draws against NorthEast United and Jamshedpur FC but couldn't get past table-toppers FC Goa. With three draws and four losses, Punjab FC languish at the bottom of the table.
Even though those encouraging appearances hinted at better things to come, their performances have arguably peaked since then. A team that hasn't won an ISL match since October 4th, against East Bengal FC, Bengaluru FC could be the prey Punjab FC desires. A hotly contested competitive matchup between teams with almost identical forms is undoubtedly in store for the Garden City.
"We bounce off the supporters, and the players do. And we want the supporters to bounce off the performance from the players. They're going to show heart, work rate, desire and skill which will make it an enjoyable night for both the supporters and the players, no matter who we are playing," Bengaluru FC head coach Simon Grayson had remarked earlier this season.
Greater difficulties lie ahead for Punjab FC than surviving the loud atmosphere the West Block Blues produce. They currently have issues that need to be resolved, such as stepping off the gas after gaining an advantage in games.
After taking the lead in their last two games against Hyderabad FC and Mumbai City FC, respectively, the team gave up and conceded a draw. They have to take action quickly to ensure that the remaining 15 league games matter in terms of the game's destiny.
Recently, the Blues have been the victims of their own mistakes; the most recent one occurred on Sunday in Guwahati when the always-reliable Aleksandar Jovanovic scored an own goal, costing them three points. Bengaluru FC hasn't experienced a losing streak this long since October-November of 2022, when they played five games (D1, L4).
