Beth Mead Joins Manchester City Women On Free Transfer To Strengthen Champions

Beth Mead has completed a free transfer to Women's Super League champions Manchester City, signing a three-year contract after leaving Arsenal at the end of the 2025-26 season. The England international joins City at 31, following a long spell in north London.

Arsenal and Mead did not reach agreement on a new deal, which opened the door for Manchester City to move. The forward arrives as a high-profile addition to the champions' squad, with City aiming to stay at the top of the Women's Super League.

During Mead's Arsenal career, the forward made 167 Women's Super League appearances, the fourth-highest figure for the club in the competition. Mead also produced 104 league goal involvements for Arsenal, second only to Vivianne Miedema's 115, and set a WSL record with 54 assists in the top division.

Mead also stands fifth on the all-time Women's Super League scoring list with 72 goals. Reflecting on the move, Mead said: "I'm very proud to be here. Obviously, City had an amazing season last year and I am excited to start a new chapter here," Mead told City's club media.

Mead believes the champions' football will suit individual strengths. Mead said: "I think the way City playsuits me really well, and I feel like it can get something extra out of my game. Speaking to the manager, I think it was a place where I think I can really fit into, help and bring a different dynamic to the team, so it was a no-brainer for me."

City's director of football Therese Sjogran highlighted the significance of the signing, stating: "Beth's achievements in the game speak for themselves, so we're delighted to bring her to the club. She's shown what it takes to consistently perform on the kind of big stages we want to regularly be competing at, so she'll be a brilliant addition to our already impressive squad of players." The move adds proven league quality to Manchester City's title defence plans.
