Ruben Amorim expressed optimism despite Manchester United's 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in the Premier League. Jean-Philippe Mateta scored twice for Palace, with goals in the 64th minute and late in the match. This loss marks United's seventh home league defeat this season, their worst start since the 1893-94 campaign.
Amorim has now overseen five losses in seven top-flight matches at Old Trafford. Since last season, only Wolves have lost more home games than United's 13. The defeat allowed Palace to surpass United in the standings, leaving them in 13th place, five points from the top half.

"The result is really bad. The performance was a little bit better than the last games," Amorim told Sky Sports. "We suffered two goals that we could avoid, and the injury to Lisandro Martinez [who was stretchered off] was tough for the team. It's normal for the fans to feel negative, it is a hard season for them, but football can change in certain moments. I will prepare for the next game and move forward. Better things will come."
This season, United have failed to score in the first half of 18 matches, more than any other team. Despite having 17 attempts compared to Palace's 11, they only tested Dean Henderson twice and created just 1.31 expected goals (xG) against Palace's 2.61.
Amorim opted not to start with a recognised striker on Sunday but introduced Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee as substitutes in the 70th minute. He lamented missed opportunities after the match.
"During the game, I felt that the team did some things well," Amorim told BBC Match of the Day. "We take some things from the performance, but not the result. It is a hard season at this moment; the players try different things to improve."
United had more possession and connections but couldn't convert chances into goals. Amorim acknowledged that playing at home adds pressure as they aim to satisfy their fans.
The current season remains challenging for Manchester United as they strive to improve their form and climb up the league table.
