Birmingham City manager Chris Davies urged his team to appreciate their significant accomplishment after breaking the Football League's single-season points record. Goals from Ethan Laird and Alfie May secured a 2-0 win over Blackpool, led by former boss Steve Bruce, on Wednesday. This victory brought Birmingham's total to 108 points in League One this season.
With this achievement, Birmingham surpassed Reading's previous record of 106 points set during the Championship in the 2005-06 season. They now hold the all-time record across England's top four tiers. With one more match against Cambridge United on Saturday, Birmingham could finish with an impressive 111 points.

Only 16 teams have ever reached or exceeded 100 points in an English league season. Wolves previously held the League One record with 103 points in the 2013-14 season. Birmingham, partly owned by NFL legend Tom Brady, will return to the Championship next season after a year's absence.
Davies emphasized the importance of celebrating this milestone with his players. "I have spoken to the players about the legacy we could leave this season and the mark we could make in the footballing world," he said following Wednesday's victory. "I have been drumming it into them, to chase a record like this... it isn’t a club record, not something that people will brush over."
Davies highlighted how special achieving 108 points is and encouraged his players to reflect on their success. "Everyone will know in the next 24 hours what we have done," he stated. He reminded them of their place in history as they achieved the highest point total ever in English football.
The manager wants his team to take time to understand what it takes to reach such heights. "Think how many football teams there have been, how many seasons there have been," Davies said. "We are the team that have got the most points in the history of English football."
