Birmingham Triumphs Over Wrexham 3-1 In The Hollywood Derby Clash

Jay Stansfield scored twice, leading Birmingham to a 3-1 win over Wrexham despite being down to 10 men on Monday. The match, dubbed the 'Hollywood derby,' began with Jack Marriot scoring for Wrexham just two minutes in. However, Stansfield equalised soon after, reacting quickly to Alfie May's deflected shot.

Birmingham took control as Alfie May and Taylor Gardner-Hickman came close to scoring before halftime. Seven minutes into the second half, Stansfield headed home from Alex Cochrane's precise cross, putting Birmingham ahead. The victory was sealed when Tomoki Iwata's long-range strike hit the post and went in, thrilling minority owner Tom Brady in the stands.

Birmingham Wins Hollywood Derby

The game ended on a tense note as Krystian Bielik received a second yellow card for a late tackle on Andrew Cannon, reducing Birmingham to 10 men. Despite this setback, Chris Davies' side managed to hold on for the win.

Birmingham's transfer strategy paid off significantly, with their £25 million investment aimed at securing promotion back to the Championship. Stansfield, their £10 million signing from Fulham, proved his worth by scoring his first two goals for the club and playing a crucial role throughout the match.

Stansfield's performance was impressive statistically as well. He achieved an expected goals (xG) tally of 1.12 out of Birmingham's total of 1.3. Additionally, he had more shots on target (three) and touches in the opposition box (six) than any other player on the field.

The match saw Birmingham dominate after initially falling behind early on. Their resilience and tactical adjustments allowed them to secure a vital win against fellow promotion contenders Wrexham.
