The decisive moment came in the second half when Gudjohnsen headed past Daniel Iversen from close range. He connected with Ryoya Morishita's precise free-kick after losing his marker. This goal marked Gudjohnsen's fourth in seven Championship goals for Blackburn this season.

Despite their loss, Preston created more chances in the first half but failed to capitalise on them.
