Bollywood stars witness Messi match

Kolkata, Sep 3: Bollywood stars and fans from politics and sports gathered at the city's Salt Lake stadium to witness soccer star Lionel Messi and company compete against Venezuela in first ever India hosted FIFA international friendly on Friday, Sep 2.

Bollywood icons Ranbir Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, Rahul Bose and Anurag Basu, singers Shaan and Babul Supriyo and India's football legends Chuni Goswami, PK Banerjee and Bhaichung Bhutia were among many of the big names present to witness the historic match.

All India Football Federation (AIFF) chief and Union Heavy Industries minister Praful Patel, West Bengal sport minister Madan Mitra and governor MK Narayanan shook hands with the players before the start of the match.

Before the start of the historic game Praful Patel said that, "I am a great football enthusiast and that's why I am here. It's a great and a historic moment for India."

"Who's not a Messi fan? I am too. But I cannot be a partisan spectator. I am here to support the game," Patel said in a reply when asked about his favorite player and team.

Sources also reveled that most of corporate boxes, each cost of Rs 7.5 lakh, were sold to the film stars, UB groups and other celebrities.
