Bologna Triumphs In Coppa Italia After 51-Year Wait, Defeating AC Milan

Bologna celebrates its first Coppa Italia victory in 51 years after defeating AC Milan. Coach Vincenzo Italiano reflects on past disappointments and praises his team's performance.

Vincenzo Italiano celebrated Bologna's triumph in the Coppa Italia, marking their first victory in 51 years. Dan Ndoye's goal in the 53rd minute secured a 1-0 win over AC Milan at Stadio Olimpico. This victory was particularly sweet for Italiano, who had previously lost three finals with Fiorentina, including two Conference League finals and the 2022-23 Coppa Italia against Inter.

Bologna's win not only ended a long trophy drought but also guaranteed them a spot in next season's Europa League. The club had already made history by qualifying for the Champions League under Thiago Motta before his departure to Juventus. Their 51-year wait for the Coppa Italia is the longest gap between titles for any club in the competition's history.

Bologna Wins Coppa Italia After Long Wait

Reflecting on his past disappointments, Italiano expressed his surprise at achieving success so quickly with Bologna. "I didn't honestly think I could get straight back out there and win it, but I did," he told Sport Mediaset. He dedicated the victory to his players, describing them as extraordinary.

Bologna faced challenges leading up to the final, having not won in their previous three matches. In contrast, Milan entered the game with four consecutive victories across all competitions. Despite this, Bologna delivered an impressive performance to secure the trophy.

Luka Jovic missed a crucial chance in the first half for Milan, while Sergio Conceicao's team struggled to pose a threat when trying to equalise in the second half. Italiano praised his team's resilience and ability to respond effectively to Milan's tactics.

A Season of Growth

Italiano acknowledged that Bologna experienced some initial difficulties but emphasised their growth both individually and as a team. "We had a few initial difficulties, but then have been going from strength to strength," he said. He expressed gratitude for being able to celebrate such an incredible achievement with his team.

The victory capped off an incredible year for Bologna and their fans, who had long awaited such success. Italiano noted that this trophy was well-deserved after their hard work and dedication throughout the season.
