Bologna Claims Coppa Italia Title Over AC Milan Thanks To Dan Ndoye's Winning Goal

Bologna triumphed in the Coppa Italia final against AC Milan, securing their first title since 1974. Dan Ndoye scored the decisive goal, marking a significant achievement for Bologna and head coach Vincenzo Italiano.

Bologna secured their third Coppa Italia title with a narrow 1-0 victory over AC Milan, thanks to Dan Ndoye's decisive goal in the second half. Ndoye capitalised on a rebound in the 53rd minute, leading Bologna to their first Coppa triumph since 1974. This win also marked a significant moment for head coach Vincenzo Italiano, who had previously lost three finals as Fiorentina's manager.

Despite Milan's recent form, having won four consecutive matches across all competitions, they fell short in this crucial encounter. Their hopes of securing two trophies in one season for the first time since 2007-08 were dashed. Bologna, on the other hand, had not tasted victory in their last three games but delivered when it mattered most.

Bologna Wins Coppa Italia Against AC Milan

The match began with an exciting tempo as Alex Jimenez missed an early chance from Rafael Leao's pass. At the other end, Santiago Castro forced Mike Maignan into a save with a powerful header. Bologna's goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski made a crucial save after Luka Jovic tried to capitalise on Sam Beukema's error.

After these early exchanges, Bologna took control of possession. Their efforts paid off when Ndoye sidestepped a tackle and scored following a fortunate rebound. Milan attempted to respond through Youssouf Fofana's run and Santiago Gimenez's shot, but neither could beat Skorupski.

Milan accumulated an expected goals (xG) tally of 1.41 compared to Bologna's 1.04. Jovic's missed opportunity accounted for 0.73 xG of Milan’s total, highlighting its significance in the match outcome. Despite Riccardo Orsolini being expected to shine for Bologna due to his impressive scoring record this season, it was Ndoye who made the difference.

Ndoye became only the second player from Bologna to score in a Coppa final since Giuseppe Savoldi did so in 1974 against Palermo. This achievement underscores his pivotal role in securing this historic win for Bologna.

Bologna’s Historic Achievement

This victory not only brought silverware back to Bologna after more than five decades but also secured them a spot in next season’s Europa League. The triumph at Stadio Olimpico is particularly sweet for Italiano, redeeming himself after previous final losses.

Sergio Conceicao’s Milan side will reflect on missed opportunities that cost them dearly in this tightly contested final. Despite their strong start to the year with a Supercoppa Italiana win against Inter, they couldn't replicate that success here.
