Xabi Alonso has confirmed that discussions regarding Victor Boniface's potential departure are in progress. The forward was absent from Bayer Leverkusen's training on Tuesday, ahead of their Champions League match against Sparta Prague. Boniface, 24, recently returned from injury but remained on the bench during Leverkusen's 2-2 Bundesliga draw with RB Leipzig.
Before his injury in November, Boniface had scored eight goals across 15 matches in all competitions. Last season, he was instrumental in Leverkusen's success, scoring 14 goals in 23 league games and helping secure their first Bundesliga title. German media have linked him with a move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.

Leverkusen has been impressive at home in the Champions League, winning their last three matches without conceding a goal. They aim to achieve a fourth consecutive home victory, a feat they have never accomplished before in the competition. "We prepared for the game without Boni," Alonso stated.
The Spanish coach added that they must wait to see how the situation unfolds. Despite ongoing negotiations, Alonso emphasized that their preparation for the upcoming match remains unchanged. "The situation with [Boniface] does exist," he said.
Following injuries to Jeanuel Belocian and Martin Terrier, Alonso acknowledged the need for activity in the transfer window. "Three days still remain and we are so close [to a decision]," he mentioned. Defender Belocian suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury earlier this year, while winger Terrier sustained an Achilles tendon rupture last week.
Alonso expressed satisfaction with his current squad regardless of any changes. "I am, and I will be, happy with the squad [regardless]," he affirmed. He also noted that all players feel ready and consider themselves vital parts of the team.
Currently eighth in the Champions League standings with 13 points, Leverkusen has secured at least a knockout stage play-off spot. Meanwhile, Sparta Prague has been eliminated after accumulating just four points from seven games.
The top eight teams automatically qualify for the last 16 of the tournament. Teams finishing between ninth and 24th will enter playoffs next month, with the draw scheduled for Friday.
