Bayer Leverkusen Triumphs Over Borussia Dortmund With Schick's Two Goals In Bundesliga Match

In a thrilling Bundesliga encounter, Bayer Leverkusen defeated Borussia Dortmund 3-2, marking Dortmund's first home loss. Patrik Schick scored twice, leading his team to victory and narrowing the gap to league leaders Bayern Munich.

Patrik Schick's two goals propelled Bayer Leverkusen to a 3-2 triumph over Borussia Dortmund on Friday. This victory marked Leverkusen's sixth consecutive league win, moving them just one point behind Bayern Munich. Dortmund, meanwhile, experienced their first home defeat of the Bundesliga season. The match resumed after a three-week winter break, with Leverkusen scoring three times in the opening 19 minutes.

Leverkusen's aggressive pressing paid off immediately as Nathan Tella scored within 25 seconds of kick-off. Dortmund, missing several key players due to injuries and illness, struggled to respond. Schick extended Leverkusen's lead in the eighth minute with a close-range finish following a swift counter-attack.

Leverkusen Beats Dortmund 3-2 at Home

Dortmund managed to pull one back through Jamie Gittens four minutes later. However, Schick quickly restored Leverkusen's two-goal advantage with a precise shot at the far post after another rapid break. Edmond Tapsoba provided Dortmund a glimmer of hope late in the game by intercepting Julien Duranville’s run into the box.

A VAR review led to a penalty for Dortmund, which Serhou Guirassy converted confidently. Despite mounting pressure from Dortmund towards the end, Leverkusen held firm to secure all three points ahead of Bayern Munich's upcoming match against Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Bundesliga returned with excitement after its winter hiatus, and the thrilling encounter in Dortmund began at an electrifying pace. For the first time since March 2000, when they played Ulm, Leverkusen netted three goals within the first 19 minutes of an away Bundesliga match. The four goals scored in this period were unprecedented for any top-flight game involving Leverkusen.

Tella’s goal was not only quick but also marked as Leverkusen’s fastest in this Bundesliga season. Yet it was Schick who captured attention by scoring his eleventh goal in six league matches. Meanwhile, this loss marked Dortmund’s first defeat at the start of a calendar year since 2004; they had previously maintained an unbeaten streak of five games under Nuri Sahin.

Dortmund has yet to achieve consecutive victories under Sahin’s leadership despite their efforts. As both teams look forward to future fixtures, these performances set an intriguing stage for upcoming challenges in the league.
