Borussia Dortmund eased past Werder Bremen 3-0 at Signal Iduna Park, with Serhou Guirassy ending a seven-match Bundesliga goal drought and Niko Kovac’s side stretching an unbeaten league run to 10 games. The result moved Dortmund within eight points of leaders Bayern Munich, who next play on Wednesday.

The hosts struck in the first half through captain Nico Schlotterbeck, before Marcel Sabitzer doubled the lead late on. Guirassy then came off the bench to score on 83 minutes, sealing a controlled victory against Werder and extending Dortmund’s strong recent record in this fixture.

Dortmund broke through after 11 minutes when Nico Schlotterbeck met a Julian Ryerson corner. The defender rose unmarked and guided a straightforward header past Mio Backhaus. Werder’s main early response came from Justin Njinmah, who forced a sharp Gregor Kobel stop in the fourth minute, then saw an 18th-minute one-on-one saved.

After that quick opening phase, chances arrived for both sides either side of the interval. Marcel Sabitzer tested Backhaus from range, while Romano Schmid produced Werder’s best opening of that period. Maximilian Beier then nearly added another Dortmund goal, but Backhaus blocked the first effort and Amos Pieper cleared the rebound off the line.

Dortmund’s dominance in possession and territory increased during the second half, weighing down Werder’s resistance. The pressure finally told on 75 minutes when Sabitzer pounced near the edge of the area. A dropping ball sat up for a half-volley, which Sabitzer drove low into the bottom-left corner beyond Backhaus.

Guirassy, introduced from the bench, then delivered the final strike that Dortmund had been chasing for weeks. A defensive mistake from Werder on 83 minutes gifted an opening, and Guirassy calmly finished. The goal ended a run of seven Bundesliga matches without scoring and marked Guirassy’s first club strike since 31 October 2025.

Niko Kovac had publicly backed Guirassy before the match and the Guinea international answered with an efficient cameo. Guirassy attempted two shots and generated 0.61 expected goals from Dortmund’s team total of 2.19 xG, underlining the quality of the late chances that finally ended the forward’s lean spell.

Dortmund’s win continued a strong sequence against Werder Bremen, with six Bundesliga meetings now unbeaten, including four victories. With Bayern Munich not in action until Wednesday, the gap at the top stands at eight points, leaving Dortmund still in touch while carrying momentum from this controlled home performance.
