Borussia Dortmund Come Back To Beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2 And Secure Second In 2025-26 Bundesliga

Borussia Dortmund secured second place in the 2025-26 Bundesliga after a tense 3-2 home win over Eintracht Frankfurt, coming from behind and then surviving a late scare, as goals from Serhou Guirassy, Nico Schlotterbeck and Samuele Inacio overturned an early Can Uzun strike and outlasted Jonathan Burkardt’s late reply.

The match began in chaotic fashion for Dortmund, who were stunned inside 78 seconds when former player Mahmoud Dahoud danced past three defenders and squared for Uzun, whose calm low finish found the bottom-right corner and briefly silenced the Westfalenstadion before Niko Kovac’s team wrestled back control of the contest.

Dortmund stun Frankfurt to finish second

Dortmund responded with sustained pressure before half-time, finally levelling in the 42nd minute when Guirassy swept home from close range, then completing a rapid turnaround two minutes later as Schlotterbeck timed a late run into the box and guided Maximilian Beier’s left-wing cross into the far corner past the exposed Eintracht goalkeeper.

Earlier in the first half, Eintracht goalkeeper Michael Zetterer had briefly kept Dortmund at bay with an outstanding reflex save from Inacio’s point-blank header, yet the visiting defence failed to cope with the increasing tempo, allowing Dortmund to carry a 2-1 advantage into the break after dominating territory and possession.

Kovac’s side started the second half on the front foot as well, with Julian Ryerson surging into the area and drawing a strong near-post stop from Zetterer, while at the other end Uzun’s driven effort from the edge of the box forced Gregor Kobel into action just after the hour, keeping Eintracht within reach.

Dortmund’s third goal arrived in the 72nd minute following a flowing team move, as Jobe Bellingham linked neatly with Beier before Inacio finished the sequence with a composed strike, which seemed to have settled matters until Burkardt struck from close range three minutes from time and Jean-Matteo Bahoya curled narrowly wide moments later.

Dortmund ultimately held firm to claim a 21st league win, despite that anxious finale, and the club’s official account captured the mood with a brief post stating:

reflecting a result that locked in second place for the season.

Borussia Dortmund vs Eintracht Frankfurt stats and Ryerson impact

Dortmund’s display featured several strong individual efforts, particularly from Ryerson, whose precise cross supplied Guirassy’s equaliser and took the full-back to 14 Bundesliga assists this season, a total bettered for Dortmund in a single top-flight campaign only by Henrikh Mkhitaryan in 2015-16 with 15 and Jadon Sancho in 2019-20 with 16.

Ryerson also led Dortmund for creative output, finishing with a team-high three chances created and nine total crosses, while the side overall produced more attacking volume than Eintracht, rebounding from defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach by maintaining pressure for long stretches despite the late concession that briefly threatened to derail the result.

That attacking control was reflected in the expected goals numbers from the Borussia Dortmund vs Eintracht Frankfurt clash, with Dortmund more productive in both volume and shot quality across the 90 minutes.

Team Shots Shots on target xG
Borussia Dortmund 13 8 1.74
Eintracht Frankfurt 9 1.12

Data from the Borussia Dortmund vs Eintracht Frankfurt meeting underlined how Dortmund controlled most phases, generating 13 shots with eight on target compared to nine attempts from Eintracht, and while Burkardt’s late goal and Bahoya’s narrow miss created tension, the earlier dominance ensured Dortmund’s season ended with second place secured.
