Borussia Dortmund Finish The Bundesliga Season With A 2-0 Victory Over Werder Bremen
Borussia Dortmund closed their Bundesliga campaign with a 2-0 win over Werder Bremen at Weserstadion, securing another strong defensive display. Serhou Guirassy scored his 17th league goal, before Yan Couto struck late in stoppage time as Niko Kovac's team completed the season with the best defence in Germany.
Dortmund recorded their 15th clean sheet of the league season and conceded only 34 goals overall. That defensive record put Dortmund top of the Bundesliga charts for the fourth time, after similar achievements in 2010-11, 1994-95 and 1965-66, underlining a consistent structure at the back across the campaign.

The visitors controlled most of the key moments in Bremen and limited Werder to nine attempts. Those chances produced an expected goals total of just 0.42, showing how few clear openings Bremen created. Werder also finished the season having failed to score in 13 league matches, matching a high since the 1980s.
Both sides threatened early in a lively opening spell. Dortmund almost went ahead in the sixth minute when Mio Backhaus produced a sharp double save. The Werder goalkeeper first kept out Serhou Guirassy from close range, then reacted quickly again to deny Samuele Inacio from the rebound with another strong stop.
Werder briefly thought they had taken the lead soon after that scare. Amos Pieper found the net following a set-piece situation, sparking home celebrations. However, the assistant referee raised the offside flag. The decision ruled out the defender's effort and kept the score goalless during an even first period.
Dortmund finally made the breakthrough shortly before the hour mark. Julian Ryerson advanced down the flank and delivered another accurate cross into the box. Guirassy timed the run well and met the ball with a firm header, guiding it past Backhaus to move onto 17 Bundesliga goals for the season.
Werder pushed for a response and thought an equaliser arrived on 81 minutes. Karim Coulibaly finished a move inside the area, but the goal was checked by VAR. Replays showed an offside in the build-up, and the referee disallowed the strike, extending Dortmund's habit of frustrating Werder on the final day.
Dortmund then secured the points deep in second-half stoppage time. Karim Adeyemi broke forward on the counter and found Yan Couto in space. Couto stayed composed and applied a neat finish, giving Dortmund a 2-0 victory and keeping Dortmund's perfect record against Werder on the final Bundesliga matchday intact across five meetings.
Ryerson's assist for Guirassy was his 15th of the league season, leaving only Jadon Sancho ahead. Sancho made 16 assists for Dortmund in 2019-20. Ryerson also reached 13 assists from crosses, matching Inter's Federico Dimarco for the most such deliveries across Europe's traditional top five leagues.
