Borussia Dortmund have parted ways with head coach Nuri Sahin after their Champions League loss to Bologna. This defeat left them 13th in the league standings. Serhou Guirassy's penalty was overturned by goals from Thijs Dallinga and Samuel Iling-Junior. This marks the first time since November 2021 that Dortmund have lost consecutive Champions League matches in a single season.
The German club has also faced domestic challenges, currently sitting 10th in the Bundesliga. They trail the top four by seven points and are 20 points behind leaders Bayern Munich after 18 games. Additionally, they were eliminated from the DFB-Pokal by Wolfsburg in October.

Dortmund's recent form has been concerning, with Tuesday's loss marking their fourth consecutive defeat across all competitions. This is a situation not seen since March-April 2000 when they lost six games in a row. The club decided to take action due to these ongoing struggles.
Nuri Sahin took over as head coach in June last year, succeeding Edin Terzic. Terzic's last game was a Champions League final loss to Real Madrid at Wembley. Sahin managed 27 matches, winning 12, drawing four, and losing 11, resulting in a win rate of just 44.44%.
Among Dortmund managers who have overseen more than 20 games in the past decade, only Peter Bosz had a lower points-per-game average than Sahin's 1.48. "Borussia Dortmund has released head coach Nuri Sahin with immediate effect following an internal analysis of recent sporting developments," stated the club.
Dortmund will face Werder Bremen next at Westfalenstadion on Saturday. Bremen is currently one point and one place ahead of them in the Bundesliga standings. The team will be looking to bounce back from their recent setbacks under new leadership.
