Borussia Dortmund Clinches First Bundesliga Away Win With 3-1 Victory Over Wolfsburg

Borussia Dortmund secured a vital 3-1 away victory against Wolfsburg, with goals from Donyell Malen, Maximilian Beier, and Julian Brandt. This win marked Dortmund's first away success of the season in the Bundesliga.

Borussia Dortmund achieved a 3-1 victory over Wolfsburg, scoring three goals in just five minutes during the first half. This win on Sunday propelled them to sixth place in the Bundesliga standings. Donyell Malen made an impactful return to the starting lineup by scoring from close range after a corner in the 25th minute. Maximilian Beier added another goal three minutes later with a shot that hit the post before going in.

Beier then assisted Julian Brandt, who was back after a month-long injury absence, to score from the edge of the box at the 30-minute mark. Wolfsburg managed to score through Denis Vavro's header from a corner in the 58th minute but couldn't find another goal. Dortmund played with ten men after Pascal Gross was sent off for fouling Lukas Nmecha four minutes later.

Dortmund Achieves First Away Win in Bundesliga

Dortmund's victory moved them to 25 points, securing the last European spot, while Wolfsburg stayed in 11th place with 21 points. This match marked Dortmund's first away win since April 13, ending an eight-game streak without an away victory. Before this game, they had only two points from their Bundesliga away matches this season, their worst start on the road in 33 years.

Brandt's performance was crucial as he scored and assisted for Dortmund in a Bundesliga match for the first time in his 171 appearances. His contribution was vital in helping Dortmund secure their first win in a final calendar year game since 2018. Despite being reduced to ten players after Gross' red card, Dortmund managed to hold on and finish the year positively.

This victory not only improved their league position but also boosted morale as they ended their calendar year on a high note. The team's resilience and strategic play were evident despite facing challenges during the match.
