New Delhi, Aug 30: Borussia Dortmund have signed Hoffenheim's highly-rated right-back Jeremy Toljan to a five-year deal today.
The deal is reportedly been arranged for a reported fee of €5 million and will see Dortmund youngster Felix Passlack heading in the opposite direction on loan for two years as part of the deal.
Toljan caught the eye during the 2017 European Under-21 Championship victory with Germany. The young defender who can play at both right-back and left-back was currently in the last year of his contract at Hoffenheim. And being a backup player to boss Julian Nagelsmann, the youngster decided to move on for a better challenge.
The 23-year-old also had been linked with a move far from Hoffenheim, with Juventus and Tottenham supposedly making offers for him.
However, the German international has now picked to join Dortmund, where he will be the deputy of veteran Lukasz Piszczek who will 32 this Summer.
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc welcomed both the move, insisting it will be beneficial for both the players.
Michael Zorc told the club's official website: "Jeremy can play both on the right and on the left. He was one of the starters in the Germany U21 national team at the European Championship this summer.
"He is a player with great development potential."
"Those facts underline the high-level Felix Passlack already plays at despite his extremely young age," Zorc added. "We wish him as much playing time as possible at Hoffenheim and believe he's in good hands with coach Julian Nagelsmann."
Toljan becomes the club's sixth signing of the summer window, with Maximilian Philipp, Andrey Yarmolenko, Omer Toprak, Mahmoud Dahoud, and Dan-Axel Zagadou earlier also joined Peter Bosz's side.
