Borussia Dortmund Advances To Last 16 Of Champions League Following Goalless Draw Against Sporting CP

Borussia Dortmund secured their place in the Champions League last 16 after a goalless draw with Sporting CP. Despite Serhou Guirassy missing a penalty, Dortmund advanced with a 3-0 aggregate win. Sporting struggled offensively, managing only one shot on target and generating just 0.34 expected goals. Rui Silva, Sporting's goalkeeper, redeemed himself with five saves after conceding the penalty.

Guirassy's missed penalty marked the first time a Dortmund player failed to score from the spot in the Champions League since Marco Reus against Barcelona in September 2019. Sporting CP has yet to secure a victory in the knockout stages of the Champions League, with six matches played (two draws and four losses). They have failed to score in five of these games. Only Celtic has played more knockout games without winning, with eight matches under their belt.
