In a major shock at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, Brazilian side Botafogo pulled off a sensational 1-0 win over European giants Paris Saint-Germain at the iconic Rose Bowl, putting themselves firmly in contention for the knockout stage.
With this unexpected victory, the reigning CONMEBOL Libertadores champions have climbed to the top of Group B, now holding a three-point advantage over both PSG and Atletico de Madrid.

Botafogo now need just a draw against Atletico in Los Angeles to guarantee a place in the Round of 16. PSG, meanwhile, face a do-or-die clash against the Seattle Sounders in their final group outing.
Coming into the game with sky-high confidence after six consecutive wins-ruthlessly putting nine goals past Inter Milan and Atletico combined-PSG were heavy favorites. But Botafogo had other plans.
Despite PSG's early dominance in possession, the Brazilian outfit remained composed and disciplined, and their moment arrived just before halftime. After regaining possession in midfield, Botafogo launched a blistering counter-attack.
Jefferson Savarino's through ball released Igor Jesus, who burst past defenders and unleashed a strike that deflected past a wrong-footed Gianluigi Donnarumma to put his side ahead. It was Igor Jesus' fifth goal in his last seven games-a statistic that underlines his current purple patch.
What followed was perhaps more surprising than the goal itself: PSG, known for their offensive firepower, failed to mount any significant comeback. Although they controlled large portions of the game, their efforts rarely troubled goalkeeper John, who stood firm in Botafogo's goal.
Botafogo head coach Renato Paiva lauded his team's unified effort and tactical discipline, saying: "We killed PSG with the same poison. That is by being a great team, playing together with all the guys defending and all attacking. That's the big secret of PSG, why they compete and win. This PSG side is a lesson to everybody in football and I told my guys to just be a team, enjoy, play together, attack together, defend together. [We showed] the quality of Brazilian players and coaches, and this is a victory of all the coaches that are working in Brazil, working with great players."
It was a night that will live long in the memory for Botafogo fans-and one that might just shift the balance of Group B in this year's dramatic Club World Cup.
