Bournemouth 3-2 Liverpool: Amine Adli's Late Winner Halts Reds' Unbeaten Run

Liverpool’s 13-game unbeaten streak in all competitions ended in dramatic fashion as Bournemouth won 3-2 at the Vitality Stadium. Amine Adli scored in the 95th minute, leaving Arne Slot’s team without a Premier League victory in five matches and extending a league run of four draws and one defeat.

The late goal also means Liverpool are now on their longest winless Premier League sequence since January 2021, when a similar five-game spell damaged their title defence. This latest setback came despite a late comeback push, with Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk both on the scoresheet.

Bournemouth made a sharp start and led 2-0 inside 33 minutes, exposing Liverpool’s reshaped defence. Evanilson opened the scoring before Alex Jimenez quickly added a second, with both goals involving errors from Van Dijk, whose usually composed defending slipped at key moments against energetic home attackers.

Liverpool responded on the stroke of half-time when Szoboszlai delivered a precise corner and Van Dijk headed in, continuing a strong scoring record. Since joining Liverpool in January 2018, Van Dijk has scored 22 Premier League goals, the most of any defender in that period and level with Sami Hyypia for the club record.

Defensive problems increased when Joe Gomez left the pitch injured during the first half, forcing further reshuffles in an already makeshift backline. Bournemouth’s forwards regularly targeted that instability, finding spaces and winning duels as Liverpool struggled to maintain a solid defensive line and control transitions.

Szoboszlai’s influence grew after the break. The midfielder first created Van Dijk’s goal and then struck himself on 80 minutes, finishing a well-worked free-kick routine that also featured Mohamed Salah. At that stage, Liverpool looked on course for a fifth straight league draw after recovering from two goals down.

Bournemouth, however, continued to threaten on the break. Evanilson missed a clear chance when shooting wide with only Alisson to beat. The hosts finally broke through again deep into stoppage time, when Liverpool failed to clear a long throw and Adli reacted quickest to force the loose ball past Alisson.

Underlying numbers highlighted Liverpool’s problems. Bournemouth recorded 2.3 expected goals compared with Liverpool’s 0.83, despite having fewer attempts overall, with 12 shots to Liverpool’s 14. That gap underlined the quality of Bournemouth’s openings and showed how often Liverpool allowed high-value opportunities close to goal.

This defeat also added to Liverpool’s issues defending set-pieces. Only Bournemouth, with 17, have conceded more Premier League goals from dead-ball situations, excluding penalties, than Liverpool’s 14 this season. It is Liverpool’s highest total for such goals against in one league campaign since 2015-16, when they allowed 15.

The result leaves Liverpool searching for solutions at both ends of the pitch after a match where attacking recovery could not cover defensive lapses. Bournemouth’s sharper finishing, superior chance quality and stronger set-piece impact ensured the home side claimed the points and deepened concern over Liverpool’s current Premier League form.
