Selecao journey is over in the Copa America 2024. Another heartbreak for Brazil but massive joy for Uruguay. They will take on Colombia in the semifinal. A 4-2 victory in the tiebreaker seals their place.
Goaaaaaaal!! Manuel Ugarte scores. Uruguay are through to the semifinals.
Goaaaaaaal!! Gabriel Martinelli scores for Brazil.
Save!! Alisson saves the shot from Jose Gimenez
Miss!! Douglas Luiz hits the post. Brazil's hopes are evaporating very fast.
Goaaaal!! De Arrascaeta scores for La Celeste.
Goaaaal!! Andreas Pereira scores.
Goaaaaal!! Rodrigo Bentancur scores beautifully.
Eder Militao's shot saved by Rochet.
Goaaaaaal!! Federico Valverde scores.
We are ready for the penalties. Alisson vs Rochet, a battle of the goalkeepers.
The Final Whistle blows. The match ends goalless and we are heading into penalties. Spot kicks will decide which team joins Colombia in the 2nd semifinal of Copa America 2024.
90+4' Brazil build up at a rather slow pace this time. It looks like they are happy to settle in with a draw and take it to the penalties.
Five minutes added as stoppage time.
88'Federico Valverde's free kick takes a touch on the wall and lobs over the goal for a corner.
86'Uruguay win a free kick at a decent position. Andreas Pereira the guilty party for Brazil. Meanwhile Brazil make two more changes. Bruno Guimaraes and Rodrygo are taken off as Gabriel Martinelli and Evanilson come on.
85'Endrick takes a quick turn and takes a shot with his left foot. The shot is decent but Rochet makes a comfortable save.
84'Savinho makes a superb run on the right. He attempts to cut inside but Caceres just does enough to stop the Brazilian attacker.
OFF: Paqueta, Joao Gomes. Raphinha
ON: Douglas Luiz, Andreas Pereira, Savinho
79'Brazil has started dominating possession since Nandez's dismissal.
OFF: Pellistri, Nunez
ON: De Arrascaeta, Varela
A strange decision from Marcelo Bielsa as he takes off two of his attackers to survive the last 15 minutes. But it may come back to bite Uruguay in the penalties.
Huge 15 minutes for Uruguay. They will have to strengthen their defence immediately. The good thing for Uruguay is that there is no Extra Time in Copa America this year.
76'Rodrygo takes the free kick but it hits the wall.
Red Card for Nahitan Nandez. The Yellow is slashed and it is marching orders for the Uruguay right back. La Celeste will have to play the final 15 minutes with a man less.
A VAR check is taking place and that Yellow can covert to a Red. The referee has been advised to check on the pitchside monitor.
71'Nahuel Nandez is given a Yellow Card after a sliding challenge on Endrick. Again Brazil stitch a few decent passes but the Uruguayan defenders deny them any space to take a shot.
68'Frantic play across the two boxes. First, Brazil had multiple shots which were blocked by Uruguay. They launch a counter and Darwin Nunez and Federico Valverde fail to convert it into a shot as Brazil win back possession.
66'Uruguay make their second substitution of this half. Nicolas de la Cruz is taken off as Rodrigo Bentancur comes on. At the start of the half, Matias Vina was replaced by Sebastian Caceres.
64'Yellow Card for Joao Gomes after a poor tackle on Nandez.
Uruguay and Brazil are set to clash in the Copa America quarter-finals. Uruguay has been impressive, winning all three of their group stage matches. They triumphed 3-1 against Bolivia, thrashed Paraguay 5-0, and edged out the USA 1-0. Under coach Marcelo Bielsa, who took over last year, Uruguay has won 10 out of 15 games.
Brazil finished second in Group D after a 1-1 draw with Colombia. They started with a goalless draw against Costa Rica before defeating Paraguay 4-1. Coach Dorival Junior, who joined in January, remains unbeaten but has seen his team draw four of their seven international matches. Brazil aims to secure their 10th South American title.
Uruguay might be without attacker Maximiliano Araujo due to a neck injury sustained against the USA. Brazil will miss Vinicius Junior because of a suspension. This could give 17-year-old Endrick a chance to start up front for Brazil.
The last competitive meeting between these teams saw Uruguay beat Brazil 2-0 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Uruguay is aiming for their first Copa America title since 2011.
