Tottenham sack Interim Coach Cristian Stellini, Replacement Named

Tottenham have sacked interim coach Cristian Stellini, the English Premier League club confirmed on Monday. (April 24)

Stellini was put in charge till the end of the season after Tottenham sacked Antonio Conte earlier this year. Stellini, who was an assistant of Conte, had an underwhelming outing since taking over the job.

But the biggest low point came in their last week's drubbing at the hands of Newcastle United. Spurs were mauled by Newcastle and lost 1-6 in the match, and conceded the first five goals within just 21 minutes of the game.

And as the aftermath, the sacking has come. The club chairman Daniel Levy wrote a message to Spurs fans after announcing the sacking of Stellini.

"Sunday's performance against Newcastle was wholly unacceptable. It was devastating to see. We can look at many reasons why it happened and whilst myself, the Board, the coaches and players must all take collective responsibility, ultimately the responsibility is mine," the statement wrote.

Levy confirmed the departure of Stellini and also appointed Stellini's assistant Ryan Mason as the new interim coach till the end of the season.

"Ryan Mason will take over Head Coach duties with immediate effect. Ryan knows the Club and the players well. We shall update further on his coaching staff in due course.

I met with the Player Committee today - the squad is determined to pull together to ensure the strongest possible finish to the season. We are all clear we need to deliver performances which earn your amazing support," the statement concluded.
