Brendan Rodgers has initiated discussions to extend his contract with Celtic. However, he insists on the club's commitment to growth before agreeing to a new deal. With just one year remaining on his current contract, Rodgers is determined to fulfil it even if an extension isn't reached. Under his leadership, Celtic clinched their third consecutive top-flight title in 2024-25 and advanced to the Champions League knockout stages for the first time since 2013.
Rodgers has been in talks with Dermot Desmond, the majority shareholder, and Michael Nicholson, the chief executive, regarding his future at the club. The Northern Irishman emphasises the need for investment in the team as a condition for signing a new contract. "I've had talks over the summer with Dermot and Michael and that went well and we'll take it from there," Rodgers told Sky Sports News.

Despite uncertainties about his contract, Rodgers remains committed to Celtic. He stated, "The club will either offer me a deal or they won't. Either way, until it's my very last day here, I'll give absolutely everything and it won't affect anything." His dedication is evident as he focuses on ensuring a successful season for the team.
Rodgers has expressed his love for Celtic and its supporters but acknowledges challenges along the way. He aims to help the club progress rather than merely maintain its current status. "I'm not the type of manager to just maintain something; I'm not the right guy to have," he said. His goal is to build and develop players individually.
Celtic has bolstered their squad ahead of the 2025-26 season by signing six new players. Notable additions include Shin Yamada and Kieran Tierney's return from Arsenal. The club is also nearing a loan agreement for Manchester City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey. Rodgers confirmed this move is close to completion.
The 19-year-old Simpson-Pusey made six first-team appearances for Manchester City last season. Rodgers praised him: "He's quick, he's dominant, he's a good defender." At Celtic, centre-halves must progress the ball effectively—a strength of Simpson-Pusey's game.
Rodgers plans to integrate Simpson-Pusey into Celtic's squad despite limited pre-season playtime. "We always need all our centre-halves at Celtic," he noted due to their busy schedule of intense matches.
With these strategic moves and potential signings, Rodgers aims to strengthen Celtic's squad depth while maintaining focus on player development and team success in upcoming competitions.
