Brentford manager Thomas Frank expressed his lingering frustration despite his team's thrilling 4-3 victory over Ipswich Town in the Premier League. Bryan Mbeumo secured the win with a last-minute goal at the Gtech Community Stadium, marking Brentford's fourth league win of the 2024-25 season. Ipswich initially led 2-0 through Sam Szmodics and George Hirst, but Yoane Wissa sparked a comeback for Brentford.
The match saw Harry Clarke score an own goal to level the game, followed by Mbeumo giving Brentford the lead. Clarke was then sent off for Ipswich, who managed to equalise through substitute Liam Delap. However, Mbeumo's second goal sealed a tense yet positive result for Brentford. Frank admitted, "Being completely honest, I am still irritated. In many ways we did not do well enough, so big respect and praise to Ipswich."

Ipswich dominated the first 40 minutes, with Frank acknowledging their superiority during that period. He described it as one of Brentford's poorest performances in the Premier League. Despite this, Brentford improved significantly in the second half, taking a 3-2 lead but failing to maintain their advantage.
Frank praised Ipswich's third goal as a brilliant cross and finish while acknowledging some fortunate moments for Brentford in securing their win. He noted that consistently putting crosses into the box can lead to mistakes from opponents. "Let's put it this way," he added, "when we play it is exciting."
Brentford ended with an impressive expected goals (xG) tally of 3.94 from 20 shots compared to Ipswich's xG of 1.36 from five shots on target out of 11 attempts. This victory was crucial for Brentford after their recent 2-1 loss to Manchester United. Meanwhile, Ipswich remains winless after nine games and sits fourth from bottom with only four points.
Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna shared his disappointment over not securing any points despite scoring three away goals and having opportunities for more. He told Sky Sports about his mixed feelings of pride in their performance and devastation at conceding late.
McKenna highlighted his team's quality and resilience during a challenging week, expressing optimism about their progress. "We always try and take the positive in things," he said, emphasising their mental and tactical identity as a team.
Looking ahead, Brentford will face Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup round of 16 on Tuesday. Ipswich will return to Premier League action against Leicester City on November 2nd.
