Brentford And Tottenham Settle For A 0-0 Draw As Thomas Frank Returns To Former Club

Brentford hosted Tottenham in a tense 0-0 stalemate at the Gtech Community Stadium. Thomas Frank returned to his former club, while Spurs failed to break the deadlock despite late chances. Brentford pressed with set-pieces and defended stoutly, while Vicario's bravery kept the sheet intact. The result extends Brentford's solid run and halts Spurs' attacking rhythm.

Tottenham left the Gtech Community Stadium with a point but no goals, as Thomas Frank’s side drew 0-0 with former club Brentford. The contest lacked clear chances, yet Keith Andrews’ team extended an unbeaten Premier League run to four matches, while Spurs again showed defensive control but struggled for attacking fluency in west London.

Both teams finished with similar underlying numbers, reinforcing the sense of a balanced contest. Brentford produced 0.83 expected goals from seven shots, while Tottenham generated 1.01 xG from nine attempts. Neither side recorded a single big chance, underlining why defences dominated across the ninety minutes plus stoppage time.

Brentford 0-0 Tottenham draw

Tottenham’s improvement without the ball continued under Frank. Spurs now have seven Premier League clean sheets from 19 matches this season, already more than the six they recorded in 38 games under Ange Postecoglou last campaign. That greater stability, however, coincided with the end of a long scoring sequence for the club.

The stalemate halted Tottenham’s all-time Premier League record of 137 consecutive fixtures without a goalless draw. Their last 0-0 league result had also arrived away at Brentford, in April 2022. This match became just the fourth league fixture of the season without a single big chance created by either team.

Brentford had the ball in the net early, when Kevin Schade reacted quickest after a Nathan Collins header was saved, but the assistant flagged for offside. Tottenham’s clearest opening before half-time fell to Archie Gray, whose effort went close but did not beat Caoimhin Kelleher in the Brentford goal.

The hosts increased their pressure after the interval. Keane Lewis-Potter and Vitaly Janelt each missed presentable opportunities, failing to convert from promising positions inside the area. Igor Thiago then worked space on the angle but could not seriously trouble Guglielmo Vicario, who protected his near post with strong positioning.

Set-pieces offered Brentford another route. Michael Kayode’s long throws repeatedly forced Spurs deep, with Vicario needing to claim several high balls in a crowded penalty area. Andrews’ players looked more dangerous from these situations than open play, yet Tottenham’s goalkeeper showed good handling and composure to relieve pressure.

Tottenham rarely found sustained rhythm in attack. Kelleher faced only two shots on target, highlighting Spurs’ lack of incision. One of those came in the 94th minute, when the Brentford goalkeeper denied Richarlison with a late save. The Champions League qualifiers therefore left west London frustrated, despite another solid defensive display.

Team Shots Expected goals (xG) Goals
Brentford 7 0.83 0
Tottenham 9 1.01 0

Both clubs left with reasons for mixed feelings. Brentford extended an unbeaten league sequence and contained Champions League opposition across open play and set-pieces. Spurs gained another clean sheet and valuable away point, but the visitors’ failure to convert their slight attacking edge kept concerns about creativity in focus.
