Brighton Manager Fabian Hurzeler Stresses Importance Of Humility After Impressive Comeback Win Against Manchester City

Following Brighton's 2-1 comeback win against Manchester City, manager Fabian Hurzeler highlights the need for humility and hard work. The victory marks a significant achievement for the team after a previous loss to Liverpool.

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler expressed his satisfaction after their 2-1 victory over Manchester City, emphasising the need for humility. Brighton's late goals secured a comeback win against last season's champions, who initially led through Erling Haaland. This marked only Brighton's second Premier League win over City in 15 meetings, both at the Amex Stadium. Pep Guardiola has lost more away games only at Anfield, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and Stamford Bridge.

Hurzeler reflected on the significance of the win, stating to BBC Match of the Day, "I've had great experiences at my former clubs, so I wouldn't say it's the biggest win of my career but it's an important one." The victory followed a disappointing loss to Liverpool, making it particularly rewarding for Hurzeler. He noted the importance of building self-confidence while remaining humble and focused on hard work.

Hurzeler Highlights Humility After Brighton's Victory

At half-time, with Brighton trailing, Hurzeler advised his players to be patient in possession and make City move. He highlighted that they played too many vertical balls in the first half. The substitutions made a significant impact on the game. "The subs were great for us," he added.

Matt O'Riley emerged as Brighton's hero by scoring the winning goal off the bench. This made him the first player since Steven Bergwijn in February 2020 to score against City on his Premier League debut. Hurzeler praised O'Riley's positive attitude during his comeback journey.

Joao Pedro also contributed by scoring after coming off the bench. He expressed his delight at returning from injury and playing a crucial role in defeating a top team like City. Speaking to Sky Sports, Pedro said, "First, I'm happy to be back... when we win like this against a big team it is good."

Pedro acknowledged last season's struggles and credited Hurzeler for instilling belief in them this season against formidable opponents. Brighton now aims to build on this momentum and secure more victories as they progress through their campaign.
