Brighton coach Fabian Hurzeler has announced that new signing Matt O'Riley will need ankle surgery and will be sidelined for a while. O'Riley was injured ten minutes into his Brighton debut against Crawley after a strong challenge.
Hurzeler confirmed the Danish international's injury, expressing hope that the club can support him during his recovery. "It's a bad injury, he needs ankle surgery and I can't say how long he's out. We will support him and try to get him back fast on the pitch. He's a good character, and is a really positive guy. It's really important to stay mentally strong and I am certain he will come back stronger from this," said Hurzeler.

O'Riley's debut for Albion was cut short due to the injury. The club shared their concerns on social media, hoping it isn't too serious.
Last season, O'Riley was the second-highest goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership with 18 goals and led the league with 13 assists. His performance made him a valuable addition to Brighton's squad.
The club has invested heavily this summer, spending nearly £200 million on players like Mats Wieffer, Yankuba Minteh, Ferdi Kadioglu, Georginio Rutter, and O'Riley himself. Hurzeler praised chairman Tony Bloom for his vision and support.
"I feel grateful and thankful for [chairman] Tony [Bloom] because it shows the ambition of the club and that we want to build on a foundation and make improvements," said Hurzeler, who is only the fourth Brighton manager to win his first two league games in charge.
Brighton is set to face Arsenal on Saturday in their third Premier League match of the season. The Seagulls have won three of their seven Premier League away games against Arsenal (D1 L3).
Hurzeler remains optimistic about achieving significant success with Brighton this season despite O'Riley's setback.
