Bruno Fernandes Aims For Team Focus Over Personal Spotlight At Manchester United

Bruno Fernandes expresses his desire for Manchester United to receive more positive attention this season. He emphasises the importance of team performance over individual accolades and highlights the need for improved defence.

Bruno Fernandes is eager for Manchester United to receive more positive attention this season, rather than the focus being solely on him. Last season, despite his impressive tally of 19 goals and 18 assists, United had a disappointing campaign. They finished 15th in the Premier League, marking their worst performance since 1974, and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham in Bilbao.

Fernandes has been instrumental for United since joining in 2020, contributing 62 goals and 51 assists in 195 Premier League games. However, he hopes the spotlight will shift to the team as a whole next season. "I hope you'll hear less about Bruno this year, but a lot more about United," Fernandes told ESPN Brasil. He emphasised that individual recognition doesn't bring him pride.

Fernandes Seeks Team Success Over Personal Fame

The midfielder believes that positive discussions about United are crucial. He is willing to reduce his goal and assist contributions if it means the team performs better overall. "If it happens that Bruno has to score fewer goals, provide less assists or do another type of provision of what is necessary for the games, I would be very happy," he stated.

Ruben Amorim has strengthened United's attack for the 2025-26 season by signing Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko. Last season, United scored only 44 league goals, ranking fifth lowest. Fernandes believes improving their defensive play is equally important as boosting their attack.

"We have more goals in the team because we know that we didn't score enough goals last year," Fernandes added. He stressed the need for collective defensive efforts to prevent conceding as many goals as last season. "To know how to suffer, to know how to defend...to have everyone react quickly when we lose it," he explained.

Fernandes' comments highlight his commitment to team success over personal accolades. His focus on both attacking and defensive improvements reflects a desire for a balanced approach in the upcoming season.
