Bruno Fernandes Questions Why Manchester United Cannot Maintain Consistency After Liverpool Draw

Bruno Fernandes expressed his frustration over Manchester United's inconsistency after their 2-2 draw with Liverpool. Amad Diallo scored a late equaliser, securing a point after Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah's penalty had overturned Lisandro Martinez's initial goal. Despite the draw, United remain winless in their last 10 away matches against Liverpool across all competitions, marking their longest such streak.

United managed to score as many goals on Sunday as they had in their previous 10 away games at Anfield combined. Their last victory in any competition was against Manchester City on December 15. The performance at Anfield showed improvement, although Harry Maguire missed a chance to win the game in stoppage time.

Ruben Amorin has voiced his concerns about United's inconsistent performances under his leadership. Fernandes echoed these sentiments, questioning why the team can't replicate such performances weekly. He acknowledged the criticism United faced due to their league position and admitted they lost too many points.

Fernandes told Sky Sports: "Criticised and fairly because the position in the table says it all, we lost too many points. We can't be happy with a draw because we need points more than they did." He emphasised that while the result was good, they could have won the match.

Manchester United will face Arsenal next in the FA Cup. Arsenal handed Amorim his first defeat as United manager earlier in December. This upcoming match presents another challenge for United as they aim to improve their consistency and secure better results.

Fernandes expressed disappointment despite the positive outcome against Liverpool, stating: "I'm pretty upset because if we show this at Anfield against Liverpool, who are first in the league and probably the outstanding team in the Premier League this season, why can't we do this every week?"

The midfielder believes that a consistent level of performance is necessary for United to achieve success this season. He stressed that much more is needed from the team to secure favourable outcomes consistently.
