Ruben Amorim is optimistic about Bruno Fernandes' prospects this season, thanks to Manchester United's new signings. Fernandes scored twice in their 2-1 win against West Ham during the Premier League Summer Series at MetLife Stadium. His first goal came from a penalty after Alphonse Areola fouled Ayden Heaven. Fernandes then capitalised on a poor pass from Areola to score again early in the second half.
Jarrod Bowen managed to score for West Ham in the 63rd minute, but it wasn't enough to prevent Manchester United's victory. Despite a challenging 2024-25 season, Fernandes was a standout performer for his team, contributing directly to 18 goals in the Premier League with eight goals and ten assists. He also played a crucial role in leading them to the Europa League final.

The Red Devils have strengthened their attacking line-up by acquiring Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Amorim believes these additions will allow Fernandes to excel even further this season. The head coach commented on Fernandes' leadership qualities, stating, "I think now he has more players to help him to lead the group and that is a good thing."
Amorim praised Fernandes for his influence both on and off the pitch, highlighting his work ethic and commitment. "He is our leader and really important, not just on the field, but off the field," Amorim said. He noted that sometimes Fernandes plays through pain and tries too hard to assist teammates when it's not necessary.
Fernandes expressed satisfaction with Manchester United's pre-season progress following their first victory after a goalless draw with Leeds United last weekend. "Training has been very good. We have been doing very well," he stated. He acknowledged that while winning a friendly is positive, there are areas for improvement.
The midfielder noted that they need to maintain possession longer as instructed by the manager and avoid rushing in the final third when attempting to score. "Overall, the game was good. We were good on the ball," he added, emphasising their focus on refining these aspects.
Amorim also mentioned how last year he sometimes had to adjust Fernandes' position for better possession during build-up play, which occasionally kept him away from scoring opportunities near the box. With Cunha and Mbeumo's different playing styles, along with Kobbie Mainoo's promising game, Amorim anticipates more support for Fernandes this season.
The upcoming season looks promising for Manchester United as they aim to build on their pre-season success and integrate new talents into their squad effectively.
