Bayern Munich Held To 2-2 By Hamburg As Vuskovic Denies Late Comeback

Bayern Munich were held 2-2 by Hamburg at Volksparkstadion, with Kane and Diaz giving Bayern a lead after Vieira opened for Hamburg. Vuskovic equalised for Hamburg early in the second half, preserving Bayern's unbeaten away run in the league. Defensively, Bayern showed inconsistencies as goals and chances flowed both ways.

Bayern Munich dropped more Bundesliga points as Hamburg held Vincent Kompany’s side to a 2-2 draw at Volksparkstadion, leaving Bayern without a win in two league matches but still nine points clear at the top, after a game shaped by clinical finishing, defensive lapses and key interventions at both ends.

The visitors extended their unbeaten away run in the Bundesliga to 19 matches, with 14 wins and five draws, yet defensive concerns continued as Bayern again failed to keep a clean sheet, making it five league games in 2026 without shutting out opponents, matching their longest such sequence in this century.

Bayern held to 2-2 by Hamburg

Hamburg struck first despite Bayern’s bright opening. Joshua Kimmich hit the crossbar from range, but then fouled Nicolai Remberg in the box, handing the hosts a penalty. Fabio Vieira converted from 12 yards into the bottom-left corner in the 34th minute, squeezing the shot past Manuel Neuer to give Hamburg the lead.

Bayern had already threatened through Michael Olise, whose low drive was pushed away by Daniel Fernandes, before the Hamburg goalkeeper blocked a close-range attempt from Lennart Karl. Those early stops kept the scores level until Kimmich’s error and Vieira’s composed finish shifted the momentum towards the home side.

Harry Kane levelled three minutes before half-time, reacting first to Kimmich’s mishit effort and drilling the ball in. Momentum then swung further towards Bayern straight after the interval, as substitute Luis Diaz scored just 43 seconds into the second half, spinning onto Olise’s precise throughball and calmly slotting beyond Fernandes.

Hamburg responded quickly. Luka Vuskovic made it 2-2 seven minutes later, rising to meet William Mikelbrencis’ delivery and planting a firm header past Neuer. The hosts almost completed the turnaround when Vieira found an open goal, but Alphonso Davies slid back to block, while Jamal Musiala forced Fernandes to tip over a looping long-range attempt.

The draw followed Bayern’s 2-1 defeat to Augsburg the previous weekend, meaning Kompany’s team have taken one point from two Bundesliga fixtures. Despite that setback, Bayern still lead the table by nine points, keeping firm control of the title race while searching for greater stability at the back.

Underlying numbers reflected the balance of play, with Bayern creating chances worth 2.35 expected goals but allowing Hamburg opportunities totalling 2.26 expected goals. Those figures underlined how exposed Bayern’s defence looked across the ninety minutes, as Hamburg regularly found promising positions in and around the penalty area.

Across their first five Bundesliga matches of 2026, Bayern’s failure to record a clean sheet highlighted a recurring issue for Kompany’s side. While the attack continued to deliver through Kane, Diaz and others, the defensive unit remained under scrutiny after another open contest against a Hamburg team that capitalised on Bayern’s lapses.
