Burnley Faces Emotional Challenges In Narrow Loss To Millwall, Says Scott Parker

Scott Parker's young Burnley team faced emotional difficulties during their 1-0 defeat against Millwall. The loss ended their nine-game winning streak in the Championship and highlighted areas for improvement.

Scott Parker expressed that Burnley's young squad faced emotional challenges in their 1-0 loss to Millwall. This defeat ended their nine-game winning streak in the Championship. The decisive moment occurred in the 52nd minute when Millwall's captain, Jake Cooper, headed Femi Azeez's cross past James Trafford. Millwall, now seventh in the table, deserved their victory at The Den.

Neil Harris, Millwall's manager, orchestrated his team's first league win over Burnley since February 2012. This marked their third consecutive 1-0 victory. Since last season began, they have secured 13 Championship wins by this scoreline, more than any other team. Harris felt his tactical approach left Burnley without solutions.

Burnley Struggles in Loss to Millwall

"It was a strong result and I thought Burnley ran out of ideas," Harris stated. "We grew into the game after Burnley were slightly better in the first 20 minutes, but I couldn't see them scoring against us." He added that Cooper's goal was crucial and believed Millwall might have scored again.

Parker noted that Burnley managed only one shot on target, which came early from Luca Koleosho. He lamented his team's performance in attack. "We came here knowing it's a tough place to come and dominated the first 25 minutes but the game went away from us at the back end of that first-half," Parker said.

Parker acknowledged that his team lacked creativity in the second half and attributed the game's outcome to a set piece. He emphasized the need for improvement in attack while recognizing the team's youthfulness and newness.

Match Statistics

Millwall registered 12 shots compared to Burnley's eight and ended with an expected goals (xG) total of 0.83 against Burnley's 0.17. Parker highlighted his team's need to be more assertive in attack but acknowledged their youth and recent formation as factors requiring ongoing effort.

The match underscored Millwall's defensive strength and ability to capitalize on key moments, while Burnley must address their attacking shortcomings to regain momentum in future matches.
