Burnley Achieves Ninth Consecutive Clean Sheet To Rise To Second Place In Championship

Burnley's ninth consecutive clean sheet propels them to second place in the Championship, just two points behind Leeds United. The decisive goal came from an own goal by Oxford's Michal Helik. Burnley remains unbeaten in their last 18 league matches.

Burnley secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Oxford United at Turf Moor, bringing them within two points of Championship leaders Leeds United. Scott Parker's team has now gone 18 league matches without a loss. Their latest clean sheet marks the 22nd in 31 games this season. The decisive moment came when Michal Helik inadvertently turned Josh Cullen's cross into his own net in the 33rd minute.

Oxford United, who were also on a nine-game unbeaten streak, had their best chance through Greg Leigh before halftime but failed to challenge James Trafford. On the other side, Jamie Cumming made crucial saves to deny Burnley further goals, stopping efforts from Lyle Foster, CJ Egan-Riley, and Bashir Humphreys late in the game.

Burnley Moves Up After Ninth Clean Sheet

Gary Rowett's Oxford side struggled offensively, failing to register a shot on target against Burnley's formidable defence. They remain 16th in the standings and face relegation-threatened Derby County next. Meanwhile, at Loftus Road, Queens Park Rangers clinched a dramatic 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers.

In an eventful match, Jack Colback scored late to secure victory for QPR. This win moves them within three points of the play-off spots after enduring consecutive league defeats. Michael Frey gave QPR an early lead with a header from Ilias Chair's free-kick just five minutes into the game.

Tyrhys Dolan equalised for Blackburn from the penalty spot after Callum Brittain was fouled by Koki Saito eight minutes into the second half. However, substitute Colback restored QPR's lead with a left-footed strike from outside the box just five minutes after coming on.

The result leaves Blackburn Rovers in fifth place, one point ahead of West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough, both of whom have a game in hand. The Championship race remains tight as teams vie for play-off positions.

This week's results highlight the competitive nature of the Championship as teams battle for promotion and survival. Burnley's defensive strength continues to be a key factor in their success this season.
