London, November 24: Chelsea skipper Gary Cahill has backed teammate David Luiz to be a good example for youngster Andreas Christensen at Stamford Bridge.
Christensen has currently taken over Luiz's spot in the starting XI since Chelsea suffered a humiliation in Champions league at Roma.
After the game, it was reported that one of the reasons for the loss was because Luiz had a bust-up with Antonio Conte before the game and after which he subsequently omitted the Brazilian defender from the team in the next two matches against Manchester United and West Brom as a punishment.
However, in his absence, Christensen inspired his team to successive victories with clean sheets and is now believed to be ahead in the pecking order for the starting spot.
Luiz, however, was on the bench for Chelsea's match against West Brom last week and also started in the away match at Qarabag in place of the 22-year-old, but in their next high voltage match against Liverpool, he is expected to be make way for the young Dane.
And while talking about the situation, team captain Cahill suggested that despite being rivals for a place in Conte’s team, Luiz can help the young Dane get better and can be a role model for him.
"David came back in and performed well,'' Cahill said. "Andreas is a younger version of him if you like. I feel like David can offer Andreas a lot of help in his progression. He has been there and done it at the top, top level, he has won many trophies.
"David is a very experienced defender and Andreas' attributes are very similar. I feel that he [Luiz] can advise him tremendously and he has done up until now.''
Chelsea play Liverpool in the weekend and currently, have a three-point advantage over the Merseysiders.
