West Ham United have officially announced the acquisition of Callum Wilson, who joins as a free agent after leaving Newcastle United. Wilson's contract with Newcastle ended last season, and he has now signed a one-year deal with West Ham. The 33-year-old forward initially joined Newcastle in September 2020, where he played 130 matches across all competitions and scored 49 goals.
Wilson's recent seasons at Newcastle were marred by injuries, limiting his playing time. In the 2024-25 season, he started only three out of the 22 matches he participated in. Despite these challenges, Wilson remains optimistic about his new chapter at West Ham.

Throughout his career in the Premier League with Bournemouth and Newcastle, Wilson has made 239 appearances and netted 88 goals. His most prolific season was in 2022-23 when he scored 18 goals, ranking fifth in the Golden Boot race that year.
Wilson expressed his enthusiasm for joining West Ham on the club's website: "I'm excited to be joining a massive football club like West Ham," he said. "A club that shares a similar passion to mine, hard work, dedication, and also I strive for success, so I'm glad to be a part of it."
Wilson is eager to face new challenges with West Ham and is impressed by the talent within the squad. He noted that the manager is uniting everyone towards a common goal: achieving high league standings. "There's such talent within the squad," Wilson added. "And obviously the gaffer's come in now, he's making everybody a team - all working in the same direction to achieve the goal."
The forward could make his debut for West Ham against Sunderland on August 16. This match marks their opening game of the Premier League season against newly promoted Sunderland.
Wilson believes that both fans and players deserve success due to their quality and effort. His addition to West Ham is seen as a positive step towards achieving their ambitions for the upcoming season.
