Cardiff City have decided to part ways with manager Erol Bulut following a poor start to their Championship season. The team has only secured one point from their first six matches, managing to score just once. Currently at the bottom of the league table and four points away from safety, Cardiff made the decision to dismiss the Turkish manager.
The club announced that Erol Bulut has been relieved of his duties immediately. A statement from the club expressed gratitude for Bulut's efforts and wished him success in future endeavours. "Cardiff City Football Club can confirm First Team Manager Erol Bulut has been relieved of his duties and will leave the Club with immediate effect. The Board of Directors wish to thank Erol for all of his hard work and wish him well for the future," read a tweet from Cardiff City FC on September 22, 2024.

Alongside Bulut, first-team coach Nikolaos Karydas has also departed from Cardiff City Stadium. Omer Riza has been appointed as interim manager. Riza faces a challenging task ahead, especially after Cardiff's recent 2-0 home loss to Leeds United, where Joel Bagan was sent off early in the match.
Bulut initially improved Cardiff's performance by moving them from relegation threats to a mid-table finish last season, ending in 12th place. His efforts earned him a new two-year contract in June, meant to last until the end of the 2025-26 season. However, his time at the club has ended prematurely.
As Cardiff prepares for their upcoming match against Hull City on Saturday, they are still searching for their first win this season. Among those speculated to fill the managerial vacancy are former Wales manager Rob Page, Steven Schumacher who recently left Stoke City, and ex-Rangers boss Michael Beale.
The team's recent form at home has been concerning, with six losses in their last seven league games (W1), including four consecutive defeats. The last time they experienced such a poor run was in November 2021 when they lost six straight home matches.
With these changes, Cardiff hopes to improve their standing in the Championship and avoid further struggles as they continue their campaign.
