Carlo Ancelotti Provides Insight into Real Madrid's January Transfer Window Plans

By MyKhel Team

Real Madrid faced a striking dilemma when Karim Benzema declined a contract extension and moved to the Saudi Pro League, leaving the club without a senior striker.

Despite the return of veteran Joselu on loan, the summer saw departures of back-up striker Mariano Diaz, and wingers Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio.

Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, primarily wide players, took on central striker roles this season. However, Madrid doesn't plan to make personnel changes until the campaign concludes.

Manager Ancelotti dismissed the possibility of signing a new forward in January, emphasizing the club's summer squad planning.

"A new forward in January? No. The club planned the squad in summer and that's it. Everything is good,", he said.

Madrid's striker situation has been challenging since Cristiano Ronaldo's departure in 2018, with limited investments in typical center-forwards, such as Mariano's re-signing in 2018 and the acquisition of Luka Jovic in 2019, who was released in 2022.

In the absence of Benzema, Madrid turned to midfield star Jude Bellingham for goals. Deployed as a 'number 10' by Ancelotti, Bellingham exceeded expectations, scoring 15 goals in 16 games, surpassing his previous career-best tally of 14 goals for Borussia Dortmund last season.

This unexpected goal contribution has become crucial for Madrid's attacking prowess.

The club's pursuit of Kylian Mbappe in 2022 was thwarted by his contract renewal with Paris Saint-Germain. However, Madrid is anticipated to re-enter the race for Mbappe when his contract expires in six months.

Despite the striking challenges, Ancelotti remains optimistic about the current squad, indicating no urgency for reinforcements until the season concludes.

In essence, Real Madrid grapples with the absence of a senior striker, relying on wide players to fill the void. Jude Bellingham's unexpected goal-scoring prowess has mitigated the impact, while the club eyes a potential move for Kylian Mbappe in the upcoming transfer window.
