Carlo Ancelotti has officially been named the head coach of the Brazil national team, becoming the first foreign manager to lead the Selecao in over a century of its illustrious history.

Ancelotti will assume full responsibilities from May 26, 2025, shortly after the La Liga season ends. He had already informed his current club of his decision and is expected to join the Brazil setup immediately to prepare for the remaining CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers.

"The greatest national team in the history of football will now be led by the most successful coach in the world. Carlo Ancelotti, synonymous with historic achievements, was announced this Monday (12) by the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, as the new coach of the Brazilian national team. He will lead Brazil until the 2026 World Cup and will already coach the team in the next two qualifying games against Ecuador and Paraguay, next month," a statement from the Brazil football read.

The move comes at the end of a mixed campaign for Ancelotti in club football, where his team fell short in Europe and domestically despite previously leading them to multiple major titles. During his storied managerial career, Ancelotti has won league titles in Italy, England, France, Germany, and Spain, and holds the distinction of winning the UEFA Champions League five times - the most by any manager.

Brazilian football authorities have hailed the appointment as a "new era" for the national team, one that blends Ancelotti's calm, structured approach with Brazil's traditional flair and attacking instinct. His contract runs until the end of the 2026 World Cup, with an extension clause in place if results are promising.

Ancelotti will make his debut on the Brazil touchline during the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, beginning with a fixture against Ecuador on June 6, followed by a home game against Paraguay on June 10.
