Jamie Carragher has expressed concerns about Trent Alexander-Arnold's potential move to Real Madrid, suggesting it could harm his legacy at Liverpool. Alexander-Arnold was instrumental in Liverpool's 6-3 victory over Tottenham, creating four chances and assisting Luis Diaz's opening goal. He has matched Mohamed Salah with 30 chances created this season, the highest in the Liverpool squad.
In their recent match against Tottenham, Liverpool showcased their dominance with 24 shots, half of which were on target. They also achieved an expected goals (xG) tally of 5.63, the highest by any team in the Premier League this season. Carragher noted that such performances highlight Liverpool as a formidable force, making them difficult to stop for rivals like Chelsea and Arsenal.

Alexander-Arnold, now 26, is in the final year of his contract and is linked with a move to Madrid. Carragher believes leaving Anfield would diminish his achievements as a local talent. "It's more than a football decision," he stated on Sky Sports. "It's about his legacy at Liverpool and how he is seen."
Carragher emphasised the significance of legacy for homegrown players like Alexander-Arnold. He compared him to Steven Gerrard and Steve McManaman, noting that while McManaman won trophies at Real Madrid, he isn't adored like Gerrard. "As a local player, Trent has been there 20 years," Carragher said.
Liverpool's win over Spurs moved them four points clear at the top of the table, widening the gap over Chelsea after their draw with Everton. This marks the 21st time Liverpool have led the English top-flight on Christmas Day, winning the title in 11 out of those 20 seasons.
Carragher shared his personal experience about leaving Liverpool as a local player. "I wanted to leave in the right way," he said, stressing that departing correctly ensures being remembered fondly by fans. He believes if Alexander-Arnold stays, he'll be regarded among Liverpool's greatest players.
"Things are expected of you as a local player," Carragher added. He assured that Liverpool supporters would feel disappointed if Alexander-Arnold left on a free transfer after spending two decades at the club.
The recent victory against Spurs was described by Carragher as feeling like a significant game for Liverpool. He remarked that it was a performance worthy of champions-elect due to their outstanding display and dominance throughout the match.
