Lee Carsley, the interim manager for England, mentioned he hasn't met Thomas Tuchel in person since it was announced that Tuchel would become the permanent head coach. Carsley is set to manage England's Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland before returning to his role with the Under-21s. Tuchel will officially take over in January.
Despite not meeting face-to-face, Carsley and Tuchel have exchanged text messages. Carsley expressed no concern over this lack of personal interaction. "I think it's quite clear in terms of the starting date," Carsley stated during a press conference. He added that they had only communicated through text, exchanging congratulations and good luck wishes.

Carsley emphasised that he feels respected in his current role. He is focused on preparing a strong squad for Tuchel to inherit. "I do not feel hard done by or shunned," he remarked, expressing optimism about handing over a healthy team to the new coach.
During a previous international break, Carsley's hesitance to express interest in the permanent position raised questions. However, he clarified that his attention was solely on the games and camp at that time. "My focus was massively on the games," he explained, noting that he felt supported despite speculation about his future.
Tuchel signed his contract two days before England's defeat by Greece at Wembley. However, Carsley was unaware of this development at that time. He assured that this did not affect his approach or performance during the match against Greece.
"In terms of my position, I'm really comfortable with the way that it was handled," Carsley said. He stressed that any issues with performance were solely his responsibility and not influenced by external factors or knowledge of Tuchel's appointment.
The transition period between managers is being managed smoothly, with both parties maintaining professionalism and respect for each other's roles. This ensures continuity and stability within the team as they prepare for upcoming challenges.
