Celtic's Passive Approach Criticised By Brendan Rodgers After 3-3 Draw With Dundee

Brendan Rodgers expressed disappointment over Celtic's passive play in a 3-3 draw against Dundee. Despite a late equaliser, he emphasised the need for improvement in aggression and performance standards.

Celtic's manager, Brendan Rodgers, admitted that his team lacked aggression in their 3-3 draw against Dundee. The Scottish Premiership leaders saw their winning streak halted as they were twice equalised at Dens Park. Luke McCowan and Yang Hyun-jun scored for Celtic, but goals from Oluwaseun Adewumi and a Cameron Carter-Vickers own-goal kept Dundee in the game. Aaron Donnelly then put Dundee ahead in the 78th minute.Rodgers praised his players' determination to avoid defeat, but acknowledged the need for improvement. "We had lots of control in the first 40 minutes, then we give away a needless goal from a counter attack. That gives them impetus," he said. "I give credit to the players, they kept going. But for our standard, that second half has to be better. We were too passive, too slow. Just not aggressive enough."Dundee's manager, Tony Docherty, expressed pride in his team's performance despite missing out on a win against Celtic for the first time in nearly 24 years. He noted the challenging circumstances his team faced but was pleased with their resilience against the league leaders. "I'm immensely proud, but the overriding feeling is one of disappointment," he said.Docherty highlighted the efforts of his players who battled through adversity to challenge Celtic. "I thought we did enough to win," he stated. "I watched Celtic put on Kuhn, Engels, [Luis] Palma... I've asked Lyall Cameron to get off his sickbed to play; Finlay Robertson hasn't trained; Cesar Garza had to come off."Celtic managed to salvage a point with Arne Engels' penalty in stoppage time after Mohamad Sylla handled Nicolas Kuhn's shot. This late equaliser ensured they left Dens Park with a share of the points. Rodgers emphasised that while they showed determination, there is room for improvement in their performance.Dundee sensed an opportunity and pushed hard for victory against Celtic's formidable lineup. Docherty remarked on how close they came to securing a memorable win: "To put in that level of performance against that opposition is bordering on heroic." He believed his players deserved more from their efforts that night.

The match showcased both teams' strengths and weaknesses as they battled for supremacy on the field. While Celtic maintained their lead at the top of the table, Dundee demonstrated their capability to compete with top-tier teams under challenging conditions.
