Celtic Vs Aberdeen Postponed After Heavy Rain Forces Pittodrie Surface To Be Unplayable

Celtic lose an immediate chance to reduce Hearts’ Scottish Premiership lead after the fixture against Aberdeen is called off, with the club now unable to trim the six-point gap that separates second place from the league leaders.

The postponement also opens the door for Rangers, who can move above Celtic in the Scottish Premiership if Danny Rohl’s team defeat Kilmarnock at Ibrox Stadium, adding further importance to an already key home fixture.

Celtic Aberdeen clash postponed due to rain

Aberdeen announce shortly before 16:30 local time on Wednesday that heavy rain has left the Pittodrie Stadium pitch unsafe, and match officials then decide the Scottish Premiership contest with Celtic cannot go ahead due to the waterlogged surface.

Weather problems also affect another Scottish Premiership game, with the meeting between Dundee and Motherwell postponed as well, while the remaining scheduled ties stay on, including Livingston versus Falkirk and Hibernian’s clash with Dundee United at Easter Road Stadium.

The reshuffled Scottish Premiership schedule leaves two fixtures still expected to proceed, and the line-up for the evening now appears as follows in the top division:

Home team Away team Venue Status
Aberdeen Celtic Pittodrie Stadium Postponed
Dundee Motherwell TBC Postponed
Rangers Kilmarnock Ibrox Stadium Scheduled
Livingston Falkirk TBC Scheduled
Hibernian Dundee United Easter Road Stadium Scheduled

Celtic confirm the Scottish Premiership postponement with a statement on social media, noting that a pitch inspection has taken place at Pittodrie Stadium and that supporters will be informed when a new date is finalised.

The Scottish Premiership programme therefore proceeds with Rangers aiming to capitalise against Kilmarnock, while Celtic and Aberdeen await confirmation of a rearranged slot that will fit into an already demanding domestic schedule.
