East Bengal triumphed over George Telegraph 3-1 in their Group B match of the Calcutta Football League 2024 at the East Bengal Ground, Kolkata Maidan, on July 7. This victory propels East Bengal to the third spot in the Group B points table.

The match commenced with a slow start, with both teams struggling to find their rhythm. George Telegraph, however, drew first blood in the 34th minute when Amit Ekka scored through a deflected shot, putting his team ahead 1-0.

East Bengal tried to respond with multiple corners but failed to convert, leaving the scoreline unchanged at halftime.

East Bengal coach Bino George made three crucial substitutions at the break, bringing in Sayan Mukherjee, Bijay, and Sanjib Ghosh, which paid off almost immediately. Just two minutes into the second half, Jesin TK equalised with a well-placed shot after a teammate's effort hit the post, leveling the score at 1-1.

The home side continued to press, and their persistence bore fruit in the 65th minute. Sayan Banerjee tapped in a cross from Souvik, giving East Bengal a deserved lead. George Telegraph struggled to mount a meaningful attack and failed to capitalise on a few set-piece opportunities.

As the match approached its conclusion, East Bengal controlled the game, looking to seal their victory, Sayan Banerjee solidified his team's win with his second goal, making it 3-1. His performance earned him the Man of the Match award for the second consecutive game.

The final whistle confirmed East Bengal's 3-1 victory, a crucial win that not only lifted their spirits but also improved their standing in the Group B points table. They now sit just behind Calcutta Customs and Bhawanipore, with a significant match against their arch-rivals Mohun Bagan coming up on July 13.
