Bengaluru, August 24: Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain looks unlikely to sign a new improved contract ahead of talks this week about his future with the club's hierarchy.
Arsenal are understood to have made an offer in the excess of £100,000-a-week but, amid interest from Chelsea and Liverpool, Oxlade-Chamberlain is in no hurry to commit his future to the north London club.
Although the Englishman has been starting Premier League matches more regularly in recent months than at any stage in his Arsenal career, he has had limited opportunities in his favoured central midfield role.
This will be a great news for both Liverpool and Chelsea who might very well launch a late bid to prise the versatile Englishman away from the Emirates. Even if Wenger sticks to his resolution of not selling his key players, Chamberlain will be in a strong position to leave the club as his contract expires next summer.
To add further woes to his wounds, star trio Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Jack Wilshere have also entered the final years of their contracts.
Sanchez is back in training and in contention to feature against Liverpool on Sunday but is likely to be the subject of a major offer in the coming days from Manchester City.
Although Wenger has repeatedly stated that Sanchez will not leave at any cost, there is a strong possibility that he might consider a lucrative offer for the player whom they will have to lose for nothing next summer.
Wenger has so far signed just two players in the form of Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac but has struggled to offload players, despite the permanent sales of Wojciech Szczesny and Gabriel as well as the departures on loan of Carl Jenkinson and Cohen Bramall.
We have to wait and see what awaits Arsenal in the closing days of the transfer window.
