Chelsea Triumphs 3-0 Over Brighton To End Bompastor's Winless Streak In WSL

Chelsea achieved a convincing 3-0 victory against Brighton, marking the end of Sonia Bompastor's winless streak in the Women's Super League. Sandy Baltimore and Alyssa Thompson were key contributors to this dominant performance.

Chelsea Women secured a decisive 3-0 victory against Brighton in the Women's Super League at Broadfield Stadium. This win marked a return to form after their previous unbeaten streak of 34 matches was halted by Everton. In their final match of 2025, Chelsea showcased dominance, especially in the first half, with Keira Walsh hitting the post before Sandy Baltimore scored just before halftime.

Despite Sophie Baggaley's efforts in goal for Brighton, stopping both Baltimore and Alyssa Thompson earlier, Baltimore managed to score by curling a shot into the top-right corner. Shortly after halftime, Sam Kerr's pressure led Caitlin Hayes to inadvertently head Erin Cuthbert's delivery into her own net while trying to fend off Kerr.

Chelsea Ends Bompastor's Winless Streak

Sam Kerr and Weike Kaptein continued to challenge Baggaley, but it was Alyssa Thompson who sealed the win by converting Kerr's low cross from close range. Chelsea had further opportunities to increase their lead but couldn't find the net again. Nevertheless, this victory allowed them to overtake Arsenal and move into second place, trailing Manchester City by six points.

The Blues' performance was commanding as they doubled Brighton's shots (16 to eight) and attempts on target (eight to four). Despite this dominance, they could have scored more if not for Baggaley's six crucial saves. Chelsea remains unbeaten in their last nine WSL encounters with Brighton, winning seven and drawing two since February 2021.

After a challenging period where Chelsea went three games without a win, questions arose about Sonia Bompastor's squad. However, they responded emphatically with this victory over Brighton. The team’s resilience was evident as they maintained focus and executed their game plan effectively.

This result not only boosted their position in the league standings but also reaffirmed their capability to compete at the highest level. With Manchester City leading the table, Chelsea will aim to maintain this momentum in upcoming fixtures.
