London, Dec 12: Chelsea have joined Arsenal and Liverpool in the race to sign Monaco star Thomas Lemar in the January transfer window, according to reports.
Liverpool and Arsenal both tried to sign the winger earlier in the Summer window to strengthen their squad however after so much huss and puss the France attacker chose to stay despite teammates like Bernardo Silva, Timeou Bakayoko and Mbappe's mass summer exodus to other clubs.
However, it was understood that the Reds will again revive their interest in the New Year for the player with Arsenal joining them.
But it now appears that a third club, Chelsea have also joined the race for Lemar's signature and will bid for him in the coming January window. According to Telegraph Sport, Chelsea contains a strong and genuine interest in Lemar, and are sincerely thinking to make a bid of their own.
Chelsea could have had a slight advantage over the other competitors as the Blues ex-sporting director Enemalo recently joined the Ligue 1 side as their Sporting director.
It is now understood that Chelsea are willing to loan players or players plus cash deal in the exchange of the player and with Enemalo at the helm, the former Chelsea officials could give them an advantage over the other contenders. Lemar currently has a contract with Monaco till 2020 and reportedly is valued at £80m.
The attacker was recently out for a month with a shoulder injury and only returned to action at this weekend against Troyes.
Chelsea are also believed to be in search for a defender and reportedly eying Juventus left-back Alex Sandro and have also checked on Porto's Alex Telles and Augsburg's Philipp Max as alternate choices.
