Chelsea's manager, Sonia Bompastor, discussed the absence of Catarina Macario from the squad for their Champions League match against FC Twente. Despite playing in Chelsea's recent 2-1 win over Arsenal, Macario was not included in the 22-player squad. The Brazilian forward joined Chelsea from Lyon last year and has scored twice in ten appearances since recovering from an ACL injury.
Bompastor explained that leaving Macario out was part of a broader strategy for her development. "Catarina we are building some minutes and building on her fitness," said Bompastor. "It's part of the plan and her own process." The coach emphasised the importance of individualised training to help players reach their peak performance.

Macario remained in London to work on her fitness with staff members, aiming to be ready for Sunday's game. This decision aligns with Chelsea's approach to player management under Bompastor, who has led the team to four consecutive wins since taking charge before the season began.
As Chelsea prepared to face Twente, who also won their opening Champions League match, Bompastor highlighted Lauren James as a key player. "LJ can play in different positions," Bompastor noted. Her versatility allows her to adapt during matches, playing centrally or wide, and even as a false forward.
Bompastor praised James' ability to impact games by scoring, assisting, and crossing effectively. "She is unbelievable when she is able to make an impact higher in the pitch," added Bompastor. This adaptability makes James a valuable asset in Chelsea's tactical setup.
The manager also provided an update on Sam Kerr's recovery from a ruptured ACL suffered in January. "Sam is doing good," said Bompastor. Despite not participating in training sessions, Kerr remains mentally strong and contributes positively to the team environment.
Kerr's presence around the team brings positivity and motivation despite her absence from collective training. Her influence remains significant as she continues her rehabilitation process.
Chelsea aims to maintain their winning streak as they travel for their next Champions League fixture against Twente. With strategic player management and tactical flexibility, they look forward to continuing their successful run under Bompastor’s leadership.
