Chelsea boss Antonio Conte expecting most difficult season of his career

London, Aug 6: Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has insisted that he is entering the most difficult period of his whole professional career after claiming Chelsea's squad is very thin on the eve of their first match of the season.

Only three months prior, Conte was all grins as he doused up the praise of Stamford Bridge after winning the Premier League title but those happy memories have now been clouded with transfers of numerous first group footballers and inability to land their top targets.

Conte is irritated by Chelsea's powerlessness to land players like Alex Sandro, Romelu Lukaku, and Leonardo Bonucci as all denied a playing move under Conte.

On the other hand, managers like Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola have now spent over £150-200 million on new signings.

Conte won the Premier League title in his initial season in control, after Chelsea completed 2015-16 season in the tenth position.

He will now lead Chelsea as they attempt to win consecutive league titles first time since 2006, however, the Italian admitted it will be hard to guarantee progressive titles as the of Manchester United and Manchester City have spent huge this Summer.

"There are many reasons which suggest to me that next season will be very tough, the most difficult of my career, I have this perception," Conte told the club's website.

"In England the pressure is high, this is the strongest league in the world because there are six teams ready to fight for the title. Only one team can win it.

"We want to try to fight for the title until the end but it won't be easy. We are working very well to try to do this. The pressure is always the same. I put pressure on myself and it helps me to give my best."

The Blues will take on FA Cup winners and London rival Arsenal today for the Community shield fixture and will begin their title defence by treating Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Aug. 12.
