Colwill Emphasises Winning Culture At Chelsea Ahead Of Club World Cup Quarter-Final

Levi Colwill has warned Chelsea's new players that the club's culture is centred on winning. As they prepare for the Club World Cup quarter-final against Palmeiras, he stresses the importance of maintaining this ethos.

Levi Colwill has issued a reminder to Chelsea's new recruits about the club's winning ethos as they prepare for the Club World Cup quarter-final against Palmeiras. Enzo Maresca's squad has been bolstered with the signing of Joao Pedro from Brighton for a reported £60 million. The Brazilian forward, who has committed to a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge, is Chelsea's sixth acquisition this summer.

Colwill played an integral role in Chelsea's successful campaign under Maresca last season. The team secured Champions League qualification and clinched the Europa Conference League title. Colwill featured in 35 of Chelsea’s 38 Premier League matches during the 2024-25 season and recently made his debut for England under new manager Thomas Tuchel.

Colwill Warns Chelsea New Arrivals on Culture

When asked about the evolving culture at Chelsea, Colwill acknowledged its presence but stressed the importance of maintaining focus. "I'd definitely say so, but at the same time, we all know how big this club is and how the culture of the club has always been to win," Colwill stated. He emphasized that both new and existing players must understand that Chelsea is a club built on winning.

The Blues have also reportedly had a £55 million (€63.5 million) offer accepted for Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens. However, Gittens will not be eligible to participate in the ongoing tournament in the United States. Meanwhile, Estevao Willian is set to join from Palmeiras after the Club World Cup concludes.

Colwill highlighted the significance of fan support, noting their influence on player performance. "The fans are the main thing," he said. "We feel their energy when we are playing." He added that supporters constantly remind players of Chelsea’s storied past and push them to achieve success for both themselves and the club.

Chelsea's summer spending spree also includes signings like Liam Delap, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr, and Kendry Paez. These additions aim to strengthen Maresca’s squad as they compete in various tournaments this season.

Colwill believes that everyone at Chelsea shares a common goal: victory. "We're just trying to reinforce that to the young boys, to the boys coming in, that this club is for winners only," he explained. The defender stressed that understanding this mentality is crucial for anyone joining or already part of the team.

The recent signings reflect Chelsea’s ambition to maintain their competitive edge on both domestic and international stages. As they gear up for upcoming challenges, including their match against Palmeiras, maintaining a winning mindset remains paramount for all involved at Stamford Bridge.
