Enzo Maresca is determined to keep his Chelsea squad focused after their thrilling 4-3 win against Tottenham. This victory brought them closer to the top of the Premier League table. Cole Palmer's two penalties in the second half, along with Enzo Fernandez's powerful strike, completed a stunning comeback at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Despite trailing 2-0 early on due to Marc Cucurella's mistakes, Chelsea fought back with Jadon Sancho scoring to narrow the gap.
Chelsea's victory places them just four points behind Liverpool, whose match against Everton was postponed due to bad weather. Maresca emphasises that his team must maintain their momentum. "The plan or the idea is to not let the players slow down," he told Sky Sports. He acknowledges that Chelsea still has work to do to match teams like Arsenal, City, and Liverpool.

Cole Palmer has been instrumental for Chelsea, achieving 50 goal involvements in just 48 Premier League games. Only Erling Haaland, Andy Cole, and Mohamed Salah have reached this milestone faster for their clubs. Palmer's performance has been pivotal during this critical festive period as Chelsea aims to stay competitive in the title race.
Maresca praises Palmer's exceptional talent and reliability in penalty situations. "I know Cole from a long time ago and I always trust him in every aspect," Maresca said about his star player. Palmer has successfully converted all 12 penalties he's taken in the Premier League, surpassing Yaya Toure's record of 11 without a miss.
During the match against Tottenham, Yves Bissouma conceded the first penalty by fouling Moises Caicedo. Caicedo was lucky not to receive a red card earlier after a VAR review of his challenge on Pape Sarr. Later, Sarr fouled Palmer for another penalty, which Palmer calmly scored down the centre.
Despite Son Heung-min scoring late for Tottenham, Chelsea managed to hold on for the win. The game could have been easier if not for Cucurella's errors. Maresca found humour in these mistakes after such an impressive comeback performance by his team.
Reflecting on Cucurella’s mishaps, Maresca joked about how Cucurella mentioned he was trying to add excitement to the game with his slips. "It's more a question for Marc [on his boots]. They are mature enough to decide what boots they need for the game," Maresca quipped.
Chelsea remains focused on improving daily as they aim to close the gap with leading teams while nurturing young talents like Palmer who continue to shine under pressure.
